Okay I know what you are thinking - “I don’t use these things anymore…” I hear you, but I think if you ask yourself “Do I have any or all of these items lying around the house, your answer may be “Well, er…yes I do…”

Even if you are not an avid collector of these vintage items (one of my sons has an incredible collection of VHS tapes), we all likely still have relics from media times gone by, and our job today is going to be to declutter these items which can be bulky and take up much needed storage space in our homes.

DVDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, CDs and even records (although these seem to be making a comeback), our homes can be cluttered with these vintage media sources that we are not using. Also consider the devices that play these items, DVD players and other electronic clunkers that are heavy, large and mostly out of date.

Option 1 - Get rid of all of it

Listen, if you are not using these items and have no plans to use them, get rid of these things. Thrift stores may welcome a donation of such things and this will enable you to get rid of these unused dust collectors.

Option 2 - Cull through with the Rule of 3 in mind

It may serve you better to pull out the garbage bags and lean into our system of Giveaway, Garbage and keep. This may be a useful exercise as there may be some gems that you don’t necessarily want to get rid of, but also many things that are ready to go! Don’t forget the broken and damages relics which you will no doubt find many of in this particular exercise as old media tends to get damages.

Whether you go with Option 1 or 2, when have you completed and have some items left make sure to put them away in an organized way and in a place you can find them easily!
